If you're ever in need of small quantities of special fixings like Metric or American/Imperial sized screw, bolts, cap-screws etc. this is the place.

Initially aimed at model builders, Modelfixings provides a huge range of small fixings that are sometimes used in arcade controls and/or cabinets.

For instance, the Star Wars yoke requires a pretty large variety of UNC sized cap-screws that are very hard to find anywhere outside of the US.

Modelfixings offers these at very reasonable prices and honest shipping costs. Communication is excellent, if you need anything not on their list e-mail them and they will try and add it for you, as I have experienced.

Their site is also a great source for people who are not used to the Imperial system, as there are tables that show sizes in metric for the corresponding imperial (UNC) sized parts. If that still doesn't work for you, or have no clue what size the part you're looking for is, you can send them a sample and they will provide the right part.

Another item of interest for arcade game fans is their full range of e-clips and circlips which are very often used on joysticks.

They also offer the required tools for those fixings and things like washers and wing-nuts, so be sure to check out the entire site if you're looking for something like this.

They ship World-Wide and accept any modern payment method like PayPal and Credit Cards !

**Note that the prices listed on the site include 15% VAT. If you're outside the EEC, you're lucky as you won't have to pay that 15% and it get's deducted from the total.**

If you're ever in need of small quantities of special fixings like Metric or American/Imperial sized screw, bolts, cap-screws etc. this is the place.

Initially aimed at model builders, Modelfixings provides a huge range of small fixings that are often used in arcade controls and/or cabinets.

They ship World-Wide and accept any modern payment method like PayPal and Credit Cards !

Level42:

Homepage: www.cinelabs.com

Mayby not for the average BYOACer, but should you ever start collecting original arcade cabs, this company could mean the rescue of your beloved (vector) arcade monitor.

Cinelabs currently offers High Voltage Transformer replacements (sometimes called Flybacks) for:

- Wells-Gardner K6100 & K6400 - color vector monitor (Space Duel, Tempest, Quantum, Black Widow,Gravitar,Boxing Bugs,Aztarac)

- Atari/Amplifone 19" and 25" - color vector monitor (Quantum, Star Wars,The Empire Strikes Back, Major Havoc)

- Sanyo EZ-20 - color raster monitor (Donkey Kong (Jr.), Popeye, Mario Bros.)

These HVT's are often the cause of the "death" of any of these monitors. It is great to be able to get brand new replacements. And at affordable prices too.

These HVTs have been designed from the ground up specifically to replace the originals. They are *not* surplus TV HVTs that were "forced to fit and painted to match" for the occasion.

Mark Shostak, developer of these replacement HVT's and owner of Cinelabs, deserves much respect for taking the effort and risk of making these HVT's available at fair prices, and so helping to keep many classic arcade cabinet well and running, or making it possible to revive some of these fantastic classics back to glorious working order !
- Wells-Gardner K6100 & K6400 - color vector monitor (Space Duel, Tempest, Quantum, Black Widow,Gravitar,Boxing Bugs,Aztarac)
- Atari/Amplifone 19" and 25" - color vector monitor (Quantum, Star Wars,The Empire Strikes Back, Major Havoc)
- Sanyo EZ-20 - color raster monitor (Donkey Kong (Jr.), Popeye, Mario Bros.)

Level42:

__NOTOC__
Televisions can be used in place of an arcade monitor. While not as authentic, they offer reasonable video performance at a definite cost savings to the user. While TVs do not appear as authentic as actual arcade monitors, they may appear more authentic than the output from a computer monitor in many instances, while smaller Windows text boxes can still be read unlike the output from an arcade monitor.

Note: When you live in Europe a (used) TV is an excellent choice for your cabinet, as you can use the SCART connector to feed the RGB signal directly to the screen. In this way, a TV is exactly the same as a "genuine" arcade monitor and is NOT less authentic.
In Europe, "real" arcade monitors are both very hard to get (especialy new) AND very expensive. This is a second great reason to select a TV as your monitor.

Some caution: The SCART expects 0,7 V levels for the signals, while most arcade PCB's (and the video amp in the J-PAC f.i.) deliver 5 V signals. Most TV's seem to have no problem with this but you could damage it. Connecting directly from a VGA card that delivers a 15 kHz signal (like the ArcadeVGA) is no problem at all since those procide about 1V signals.

Connection types
When using a TV, make sure to match the outputs of your video card to the inputs of your television. Several types of video are available when using a TV, each with varying strengths and weaknesses. The more common formats are:

* Coaxial
* Composite Video (RCA)
* S-Video
* Component Video (YUV)
* SCART (Europe)

The type of connection you can use may depend on the connections your videocard can offer and the connections your television accepts.

Things to consider when choosing a TV
Some things to consider when choosing a TV for your cabinet:
*How big is the case? Do you want to leave the TV in its case or strip the case off to fit a bigger tube in your cabinet? Is the TV case too deep to fit while your cabinet still has its back panel on?
*Where are the video inputs? Is the video-in port/jack on the TV in an inconvenient place? If it is on the front of the case? Will there be room between the front of the TV and the bezel?
*Does the TV return to the last channel/input when power is cut? If you unplug the TV and then plug it back in (or turn off and on its power strip), does it return to the channel/input it was on last, or does it default to a different channel?
*Will you use it for other media? Will you watch TV on your cab? Will you need to use the TV's remote?
*The most important question... will the TV automaticallly power itself back on after a "power failure." If you turn the cabinet's power off, you want the TV to turn itself back on automatically when you later power the cabinet back on.

TV hacks
Be sure that you know what you are doing before attempting to work on any CRT display (like a TV or Arcade monitor) as various components in them can carry lethal electrical charges even when unplugged!
*Desolder IR tab from TV board, splice length of wire from board to IR tab, move IR tab into marquee or bezel area so it can receive remote signals better
*TVs generally fit into arcade monitor brackets. Remove TV from case, and bolt into old arcade monitor brackets for a solid installation
*(When mounting a TV onto arcade monitor backets) If you don't feel like putting screws into your TV's circuit board, use a rotary tool to cut the TV's circuit board plastic mounting slots out of the TV case. You can then screw, bolt, or twist-tie the mounting slots into your cabinet and place the circuit board back into the mounting slots.
*To get better antenna reception, run a 10' wire from the antenna input on your tv, out of the back of your cabinet along the complete height of the cabinet. You can staple or glue the wire flat to the cabinet. You can then paint the antenna wire if you choose.
*Use the TVs audio out to drive your cabinet's speakers. Run audio from your computer to your TV's audio in. You can cut the TV's audio wires to the puny TV speakers and then run the wires to the cabinet's mono or stereo speakers. The quality is low, but the quality on most original arcade cabinets was pretty low also.
The second seller for arcade parts in Europe I found so far (besides www.arcadeshop.de). This one is from France, however their site is in English as well. The program is various, they don't have everything, but do have some interesting things that are pretty hard to get here, like real arcade monitors, Sanwa parts and even a Seimitshu Spinner !

I haven't dealt with Starcab yet, but from what I hear is they ship quickly. Prices are pretty good as well.
At first glance, Suzo appears to be much like Happ Controls, with the large catalog and unfriendliness to the small home arcade builder. You have to register to be able to view their catalog.

Suzo is a European vendor, Dutch to be exact, but their web site is in English.

See Also
* Vendors

You actualy don't have to register to see the catalogue, you can download it in full through this link: http://www.suzo.com/downloads/SuzoCatalogue2006.pdf
or you can download it in parts from http://www.suzo.com/catalogue.php

If you want to buy from them you need a chamber of commerce number. That's the only real requirement. The head-office in Oud-Beijerland, The Netherlands has a "carry-away" counter and my experiences with staff there are that they are both friendly and helpful. Naturaly, this is not an end-user company and video games are not their center point of business anymore. However, they try to help out as much as they can is my experience.

Happ and Suzo actualy merged in 2005. This meant that the Suzo catalogue is now also carrying (some) Happ parts.
